February Notes

On 5th February we are looking forward to welcoming Daniele Altieri  who has an intriguing talk lined up entitled: “Mystery, surprise and illusion in the garden”. Jill and I heard this talk last year at the Sussex Gardener Centre at Mark Cross and we were very impressed so immediately set about booking him to come to Sandhurst. He will have plenty of ideas that you will want to try in your own garden. If you want to know more you can find him at his own web site: Giardini Bellissimi Garden Design. Well worth a look.

We will be taking bookings for the  3rd June coach outing to West Dean/Weald and Downland Open Air Museum. Please secure your place with a £10 non refundable deposit. The total cost will be no more than £30, hopefully less if members are able to make use of the 2 for 1 card from the Gardeners World magazine May copy.

We are going to try out peat free compost in a desire to support a sustainable environment. So far we have identified Melcourt Silvagrow, RHS approved and available from Great Park Farm, Catsfield (£6.25 for a 50l bag) and Verve by B&Q at a special price of £3.33 per 50l bag. If you have tried either of these, or can recommend another brand, we would be interested to hear how they performed.

Seed potatoes for the Potato in a bucket competition will be available at the March meeting, as they will be Second Earlies!

You might be interested to know that the Garden Photographer of the Year exhibition is on at Sissinghurst from now for a few weeks. I went a couple of year ago and the photographs were amazing.
