The ancient art of hedge laying has been around for thousands of years. Up until the 18th century the only way to boundary your land and protect your crops and livestock was by laying a hedge. Avid followers of BBC’s Countryfile will have seen HRH Prince Charles only too happy to pick up his tools and get involved in the art of hedge laying; hardly surprising since he is patron of The National Hedge laying Society. Well we may not have HRH visiting in January but we are delighted to welcome Phil Piddell who has been involved with hedge laying since 1987 and is a member of the South of England Hedge laying Society. He runs training courses and features on YouTube and will tell us all about this ancient countryside skill.
